Bladder Control

The V-Reju treatment is proving to be very effective in helping with the so-called 'weak bladder' - this can include the neurogenic bladder or types of incontinence.

 Identifying the conditions :

Symptoms of the Neurogenic Bladder

Overactive bladder:

  • Feeling of urgency ( the sensation of needing to go to the toilet but knowing that you have to hurry)
  • Urge Incontinence ( the leaking of urine when you did not make it to the loo fast enough, loss of bladder control)
  • Frequency ( feeling like you need to go to the loo every few minutes, and passing small amounts)
  • Nocturia ( Needing to get up multiple times at night to go to the bathroom)

Underactive Bladder :

  •  overfilling of the bladder and leakage
  • difficulty in starting urinary flow and inability to empty the bladder
  • Urinary retention
  • Not sensing when the bladder is full

Associated with this condition are quality of life issues :
  • Constant fear of leaking
  • Avoiding certain activities for fear of needing to go to the toilet often
  • Wearing sanitary pads daily to ensure peace of mind 'for incase'

Possibly also accompanied by the sensation when you do go to pass urine that the bladder has not emptied well, and that you have to go again soon.

Symptoms and signs of stress Incontinence :

  • Leaking of urine during coughing, sneezing, laughing, jumping, lifting things, intercourse or any reason for increased abdominal pressure

Associated quality of life issues :

  • Constant awareness of the possibility of leakage, which makes patients feel 'down' or depressed
  • Avoiding certain activities like playing with a child or jumping on a trampoline
  • Turning down invitations to activities that require being out for an extended period of time
  • Turning down or avoiding activities where there are no bathrooms, or where it is far to the bathroom (like the beach)
  • Avoidance of intimacy due to self-consciousness.

What causes these problems ?

Central Nervous System Causes :

  •  Alzheimers disease
  • Meningomyelocele
  • Brain or spinal injuries
  • Multiple sclerosis
  • Parkinson disease
  • Spinal cord injury
  • After Stroke
Peripheral Causes :
  • Alcoholic neuropathy
  • Diabetic neuropathy
  • nerve damage due to pelvic surgery, caesar complications or vaginal delivery
  • nerve damage due to a herniated disc
  • Vit B12 deficiency
  • Pelvic vascular insufficiency - due to atherosclerosis, renal vein incompetence, varicosities of pelvic veins, or pregnancy.

Treatments available :

  • medications for overactive or underactive bladder,
  • Excercises
  • Physiotherapy
  • Surgical options - include urethral dilation, artificial sphincters, electrical stimulation of sacral nerves, sling surgery
  • Carboxy therapy* - What we offer at Clinic Reju
*How do you treat urological problems with Carboxy therapy ?

Treatment involves the injection of Carbon dioxide into specific points (about 4-5 injections) around the perineum. The tissue is infitrated and feels like it's getting puffed up. It can be uncomfortable and strange at first. The puffiness subsides within 10-15 minutes. You will breathe out the CO2 within 30 minutes after treatment.

What symptoms can Carboxy therapy help with ?
  • the neurogenic bladder - frequency, inadequate emptying, nocturia, urgency
  • incontinence - stress incontinence  (leakage on jumping, sneezing, coughing, laughing)
Additional possible side effects :
  • tissue thickening - tightening of vaginal walls
  • increased libido
  • increased lubrication
  • bruising and tenderness at injection site

How often are treatments done ?

  •  Initially we usually do a treatment weekly. Currently the first four are done for free in exchange for you filling in forms for us to gather additional data on results.
  • After 4-6 treatments or after sufficient result is achieved, maintenance treatments are commenced at one per month for bladder problems and twice a month for libido and lubrication maintenance if these were the primary concern.
